Theta Chi Presents Bold Plan to UF Board of Trustees

On Friday, October 17, a contingent of Eta Mu Chapter Theta Chi members, led by Collegiate Active Chapter President David May, and Alumni Tim Hilborn (’81) and Ken Armstrong (’85), addressed the University of Findlay Board of Trustees.  The presentation included an overview of the mission of the Eta Mu Chapter of Theta Chi Alumni Association (“Who We Are”), as well as the short-term and long-term goals of the organization (“Where We Are Going”).  Included in the presentation were the benefits and potential of Greek organizations on the UF campus, to provide support and opportunities for all UF students, not only Theta Chi members.  

The presentation began with Brother Tim Hilborn providing an overview of the Alumni Association’s mission and explaining that the aspirations of the Alumni Association are fully aligned to the overall Theta Chi ideals of “The Helping Hand”, and “Theta Chi for Alma Mater”.  

Brother David May then discussed risk management as it relates to the Theta Chi Sacred Purpose.  He continued by providing an update on the status of the Collegiate Chapter, including the support provided by the Alumni Association to bring the Chapter back from near extinction.

Finally, Brother Ken Armstrong provided the details of the short-term and long-term goals of the organization, including:

Philanthropic 

Short Term

  • Provide two Academic Scholarships annually

  • Provide Member Scholarships

  • Provide Leadership Trainings each academic year

  • Provide All Student Speakers Bureau Events

Long Term

  • Increase the number and amount of Academic Scholarships

  • Increase the amount of the Member Scholarships 

  • Sponsor an Annual Campus-Wide speaking event

  • Support the Leadership development process

Financial Stewardship & Fundraising

Short Term

  • Increase alumni fundraising participation to 100 members by 4Q2025 and 150 by 2Q2026

  • Implement the OneCause fundraising platform

  • Develop a plan for all initiatives to be funded from endowed fund earnings

Long Term

  • Funding all initiatives from endowed fund earnings

  • Fundraising participation at 75% of total membership

Alma Mater First, Theta Chi for Alma Mater

Short Term

  • Connect with University Administration

  • Establish an All-Greek alumni social / planning session with at least 20 members attending

  • Provide University cabinet and board our annual report

  • Maintain a Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) - health/safety, mentoring on career networking/leadership, and goal planning

Long Term

  • Execution of key Greek system plan initiatives

  • Realize alma mater academic and experience excellence

Communication Strategy

Short Term

  • Establish a website and fully utilize social media

  • Enhance member information in customer relationship management (CRM) system for member networking purposes

  • Improve recovery of lost brothers percentage by 10%

Long Term

  • Reach 100% of key audiences in knowing “Who we are" and "Where we are going”

  • 100%-member information database

Connecting Events

Short Term

  • Coordinate a Homecoming Event

  • Coordinate a Spring Formal Event

  • Develop an event planning guide to ensure year to year consistency and leadership transition

  • Support a minimum of four US regional events

Long Term

  • Engage 75% of membership in a minimum of one event per year

In addition to the Board or Trustee members, the presentation was also attended by UF President Dr. Fell and UF Staff and Faculty members.

 

The Theta Chi presentation team fielded questions from the audience and indicated that they would like to provide the Board with an annual update regarding the achievement of goals.
