Watterson Center Dedication - “Assisting Hand” in Action

An "Assisting Hand" for the Future: Brother Billy Watterson ’96 and his wife Brenda - Dedication Ceremony for the Watterson Center

For the brothers of the Eta Mu chapter, the concept of the "Assisting Hand" is more than just a phrase—it is a lifelong commitment. We are thrilled to celebrate one of our own, Brother Billy Watterson ’96, as he and his wife, Brenda, make the largest single gift in the University of Findlay’s history to launch and dedicate the Watterson Center.

Extending the Eta Mu Legacy

Billy has always exemplified the resolute leadership that Theta Chi aims to instill in every man. Since his time at Findlay, he has been a mentor, a trustee, and a visionary entrepreneur, founding over 20 businesses. This major gift for the Watterson Center aligns to our chapter's values and the universities mission, providing the infrastructure to prepare the next generation of students for leadership and service.

Core Pillars: Humility, Courage, and Integrity

The Center’s focus on character, integrity, and humility mirrors the very ideals we pledged to uphold as brothers. The Watterson Scholars program will now guide undergraduates through a four-year journey of civic engagement and ethical development, ensuring that the spirit of brotherhood and mutual assistance remains a hallmark of the UF experience.

A New Home - Watterson Center

The Watterson Center building was dedicated at a ceremony held yesterday April 30, 2026 by Katherine Fell, University of Findlay President. The building will serve as a hub for faculty and students, fostering the kind of interdisciplinary collaboration and "Assisting Hand" mentality that Billy has championed throughout his career.

Theta Chi Fraternity - Eta Mu Chapter - Brother Ethan Lantz

There were several opening remarks including those from Brother Ethan Lantz, pictured above and Nathan Zuercher. Ethan emphasized, in his remarks, the importance of the Watterson Center and how it has been a main stay in his time at the University. A place of gathering, friendship, brotherhood, and faith practice. He thanked the Watterson’s for there generosity and recognized what a great day this truly is for the University and its students.

Impact of the University of Findlay and Theta Chi Fraternity

Just as Theta Chi emphasizes being good citizens and serving our fellow man, the Watterson Center is deeply rooted in Hancock County. Through service-learning and local partnerships, students will put their ethics into action, ensuring that Findlay graduates are prepared to lead with both heart and conscience.

Billy shared in his speech during the rededication ceremony - an appreciation for God, his family (his grandson - who was in attendance), his colleagues, and recognized Theta Chi brothers in the room. He went on to say that the University of Findlay education and the impact of the Theta Chi brotherhood had a profound influence on him.

As Eta Mu alumni, we can take great pride in seeing a brother live out our maxim with such profound impact. The Watterson’s legacy ensures that the University of Findlay will continue to be a place where leaders are made and the "Assisting Hand" is always extended.
