The Positive Impact of Theta Chi Fraternity at the University of Findlay

Supporting Young Men to be The Best Men

For more than five decades, Theta Chi Fraternity’s Eta Mu Chapter at the University of Findlay has helped young men develop as students, leaders, professionals, and engaged members of their communities.

Today, through Theta Chi International Fraternity programs and locally developed initiatives supported by dedicated alumni, Eta Mu continues that commitment. Its efforts emphasize health and safety, academic achievement, leadership development, personal development through mentoring, career preparation, philanthropy, and community service.

Together, these programs reflect a shared purpose: helping young men make responsible decisions today while preparing them to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives tomorrow.

Impact Overview

HOW IS THIS LEVEL OF IMPACT ACHIEVED?

Theta Chi International Programs: Building Resolute Men

Founded in 1856, Theta Chi Fraternity provides national programs designed to develop successful students, responsible citizens, lifelong brothers, and resolute leaders.

Sacred Purpose® – Health and Safety First

Sacred Purpose promotes a culture of personal responsibility, awareness, and intervention through education addressing five critical areas:

  • Alcohol and other drugs

  • Fire and life safety

  • Hazing prevention

  • Sexual misconduct prevention

  • Suicide prevention and mental health awareness

The program encourages members to support all people in contact with our fraternity, recognize potential concerns, intervene appropriately, and connect those needing assistance with available resources. This approach reflects Theta Chi's enduring principle of extending an Assisting Hand.

At Eta Mu, alumni reinforce these principles through the Chapter Advisory Board, mentoring collegiate leaders in health, safety, accountability, and responsible chapter management.

Resolute Man® – Preparing Members for Life

Theta Chi's premier membership experience, the Resolute Man program, encourages personal growth, leadership, professional development, and service through three pathways:

  • Individual Track: Leadership, professional development, and service through the Assisting Hand.

  • Event Track: Educational experiences emphasizing character, leadership, brotherhood, and civic engagement.

  • Experience Track: Immersive career and professional development opportunities connecting students with experienced alumni and professionals.

The program encourages members to maximize their college experiences while preparing for meaningful lives and careers after graduation.

Field Representatives and Officer Leadership Training

Theta Chi International Headquarters supports chapters through Field Representatives who work with collegiate members, alumni, and university officials. They provide guidance, evaluate chapter operations, share successful practices, and connect chapters with national resources.

Additional Officer Leadership Training Conferences prepare chapter officers for responsibilities involving health and safety, leadership, recruitment, and member development.

Eta Mu Initiatives: Alumni and Collegians Working Together

Eta Mu complements these national programs with locally supported initiatives that benefit members, the University of Findlay, and the surrounding community.

Alumni Mentoring and Chapter Advisory Board

Drawing upon more than five decades of alumni experience, the Chapter Advisory Board provides collegiate leaders with mentoring, guidance, and organizational continuity. Particular attention is given to health and safety, leadership accountability, decision-making, and responsible chapter operations.

The objective is not for alumni to manage the chapter, but to help collegiate members become capable, responsible leaders themselves.

Academic Achievement and Scholarships

Eta Mu alumni organizations reinforce the importance of education through academic scholarships and student support. These initiatives recognize achievement, encourage academic responsibility, and invest in students' long-term success.

This commitment reflects Theta Chi's maxim: "Alma Mater First and Theta Chi for Alma Mater."

Campus and Community Educational Programs

Eta Mu and its alumni sponsor speaking and educational events open to the broader university and community. Featuring experienced alumni and professionals, these programs are presented by career experienced alumni or professionals on a wide range of topics, including leadership, career preparation, personal and professional development, business planning and development, health and safety, contract negotiations and management,  and practical life experiences.

By sharing knowledge beyond fraternity membership, Eta Mu contributes to the educational mission of the University of Findlay.

Leadership Development Through Experience

Collegiate members gain practical leadership experience by managing budgets, organizing events, leading committees, establishing goals and setting a plan, recruiting members, resolving challenges, and managing organizational responsibilities.

Alumni mentoring and national training programs complement these experiences, reinforcing that leadership means accepting responsibility for people, decisions, and results.

Philanthropy and Community Service

Eta Mu extends Theta Chi's Assisting Hand through philanthropic efforts supporting both national and local causes.

The chapter participates in Theta Chi's national commitment to the USO, supporting America's military community through the fraternity's longstanding partnership and Operation Military Red initiative.

Locally, Eta Mu supports the Findlay-area homeless shelter and individuals in need, demonstrating that fraternity membership includes a responsibility to serve others.

A Partnership That Creates Lasting Impact

Eta Mu's strength comes from the combined efforts of its collegiate members, alumni, and International Fraternity.

National programs provide structure, education, and leadership resources. Alumni contribute mentoring, professional experience, financial support, and continuity. Collegiate members contribute energy, ideas, service, and hands-on leadership.

Together, these efforts create opportunities extending well beyond the traditional four-year college experience, benefiting individual members, the university, and the community.

Looking Ahead: 55 Years of Brotherhood and Service

As Eta Mu approaches its 55th anniversary at the University of Findlay in 2027, the chapter celebrates a legacy of brotherhood, academic achievement, leadership, and service. The following is our latest impact report:

More importantly, it continues investing in the next generation through programs that encourage responsible decisions, respect for all, personal growth, professional success, and meaningful community involvement.

Eta Mu's purpose extends beyond building a successful fraternity chapter. It is about developing better men, strengthening our university and community, and creating lifelong opportunities to make a positive difference.
